My name is Brian Wright, National Sales Director
and AmeriPlan® IBO (independent business owner).
For years I labored under a job I did NOT like. There were many
reasons why my former job and the "job world"
did not agree with me. Perhaps you will relate with this. My
old job temporarily met my basic financial needs, but limited me in
several ways.
Does your job compare to my old job
with...
Limited Income
resulting in fewer choices in life
No job security -
budget cuts frequently reduced my hours of employment
Routine
assignments that didn't challenge my ability
Lack of
appreciation from my employer
A micro-managing
boss
Annual job
performance interviews
Limits on
promotion often due to being under-qualified for a
particular position based on my college
education and major or lack of qualified work experience
Denial of a
promotion because I didn't speak Vietnamese (and the job
didn't even require me to go to Vietnam)
Mandatory
transfer to a satellite office more than 35 miles away
Office politics
I
received an e-mail that compared my old job to prison and it made me laugh,
but it also made me think. Read it and see if it sounds as much
like your job as it did mine...
PRISON vs. YOUR JOB DEBATE
IN PRISON...you spend
the majority of your time in an 8x10 cell.
AT YOUR JOB...you spend
most of your time in a 6x8 cubicle.
IN PRISON...you get
three meals a day.
AT YOUR JOB...you only
get a break for one meal and you have to pay for it.
IN PRISON...you get
time off for good behavior.
AT YOUR JOB...you
get rewarded for good behavior with more duties.
IN PRISON...a guard
locks and unlocks all the doors for you.
AT YOUR JOB...you must
carry around a security card and unlock and open all the doors yourself.
IN PRISON...you can
watch TV and play games.
AT YOUR JOB...you get
fired for watching TV and playing games.
IN PRISON...you get
your own restroom.
AT YOUR JOB...you have
to share.
IN PRISON...they allow
your family and friends to visit.
AT YOUR JOB...you
cannot even speak to your family and friends.
IN PRISON...all
expenses are paid by taxpayers with no job required on your part.
AT YOUR JOB...you get
to pay all the expenses to go to your job and then they deduct taxes
from your salary to pay for prisoners.
IN PRISON...you spend
most of your life looking through bars from the inside wanting to get
out.
AT YOUR JOB...you spend
most of your time wanting to get out and go inside bars.
IN PRISON...there
are wardens who are often rough and tough.
AT YOUR JOB...they are
called managers or "the boss."
My employment as
a state employee for the Employment Development Department of California
actually worked together for good because it gave me great
